A disadvantage of driving a motorcycle is that you get wet, hot, cold and dirty
There is no doubt that when you are motorcycle you are exposed to the elements. There will be times when you will be battered by the wind and rain and your fingers will be numb. This can really go both ways though, being exposed to the elements brings a completely new dimension to travelling from point A to B that someone driving a car could not understand. Of course with the correct motorcycle protective gear as well as a suitable bike setup such as fairings and/or a windshield, you can be heavily protected from many of these elements. The only major inconvenience when being exposed to the weather is when it is a very hot day, this is when people been tempted to ride without the proper motorcycle safety clothing.
A disadvantage of driving a motorcycle is that you need to prepare
This is one that many people don’t think about when they first get their motorbike license. It is Monday morning and you are about to leave the house to commute to work. If you are a car driver all you need to do is pick up a set of keys to get into the car then off you go, your work shoes don’t even need to be on yet and you can finish your piece of toast while you drive. However, when you become a motorbike rider then things are different. Before leaving you need to make sure that you have all of your protective gear on, you will also need to make sure that any work close to you at changing into have been packed. Although you’re likely to save considerable time during the commute, you will then have an unpack and change routine at the other end.
A disadvantage of driving a motorcycle is that you can only take one passenger (pillion)
This can be seen as either a good or bad thing. If you have a family and you can forget about taking them all with you. However the flipside here is that you will never get stuck leaving a party and being asked by your friends to take them all with you.
A disadvantage of driving a motorcycle is that you have limited luggage space
There is a large amount of motorcycle luggage on the market, however it definitely is not the same boot space as is available in a car. At the very least you’re going to need a backpack, however if you plan on doing any shopping or at venturing away for weekends, then you will need to investigate what luggage options are available to you.
A disadvantage of driving a motorcycle is that you must remain focussed
It might be midnight and you are heading home from a party or from staying back at work. Jump into the car and put the air conditioning on cold with some loud music to keep you awake, maybe you could even drink an energy drink while you drive. There are not these same options available when riding a motorbike. Although it is extremely dangerous to drive a car when you’re tired, the dangers significantly increased if you try the same on a motorbike. The only way around this one is to make sure that you don’t drive a motorcycle without the proper rest.
Now having gone through that list of items, I don’t care! If you are truly passionate about motorcycles then you will not care about this least either. You will work out how to overcome all of these and begin looking forward to the days where you “beat the wind and rain”.
